I am pretty good about answering emails in a timely fashion. Usually you will hear back from me within 24 hours of contact; I will let you know in advance if I will be away from email for longer than 72 hours.
I do not, as a rule, communicate with students via text or phone. I also do not “friend” my current students in social media (that includes Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. You may see me on Twitter, because I tweet about DH *a lot*). I believe that it is healthy to stay out of one another’s personal social spaces.
There will be a few days during the semester when I need to be away from campus. On those days we will hold virtual class, in which there is a time-based assignment, Skype/Google Hangout contact, or something similar. I will let you know about such activities in advance.
